CALL FOR INSTALLATIONS

The MEGAPOLIS Festival is providing up to three (3) grants of 1,000 USD each for artists to install [hyper-spectacular] sound works at the 2015 festival in Oakland. We are looking for immersive, sound-based, site-specific, a-mazing installations that will be presented during and potentially beyond the festival weekend. For presentation to the general public. Electricity or not (IE caveman style) is just fine. We definitely encourage a period of ‘activation’ or interactive audience participation with your installation during the festival weekend.

Preferred proposals are multidisciplinary in nature; hit on concepts that speak to what the festival is about; and address the 2015 festival theme (Frontiers: see our Submission page for more info).

Three proposals will be selected by a jury comprised of five persons from various backgrounds (artists, curators, and journalists).

Proposals must include the following information:

  1. A clear description of the installation, including a detailed budget ($1,000 total).
  2. Desired parameters for the installation space (e.g., darkness, public space, preferred dimensions for a space).
  3. Equipment necessary to realize the installation. (Artist is responsible for securing all equipment needed.)
  4. Diagrams and media documentation (on-line links to sound or video recordings, photos) are HIGHLY appreciated.

MEGAPOLIS will provide production and general assistance in the installation of the work; any additional equipment needs outside of the budget must be provided by the artist.

An artist’s track record will be considered in feasibility of selected proposals, but we are also interested in using these funds to support emerging artists.
