We’ll listen to some of the most profound radio features that illuminate political topics (militarism; legacy of slavery; environmental toxicity in a global context.) Radio producers such as Gregory Whitehead, damali ayo, Jens Jarisch, and Meira Asher transform both the listener’s and the producer’s engagement with political topics through creative uses of narrative, sound, assemblage, absurdity, rhythm & humor. What analysis of power do they present? What are underlying assumptions about the role of a radio documentary as a force for justice –is radio storytelling an intervention, a form of bearing witness? A listening session with facilitated participatory discussion.
