Misophonia – Carlo Patrao

A recently discovered and little understood chronic condition that is characterized by highly negative emotional responses to auditory triggers like chewing, breathing, sniffling, coughing, or slurping. This radio collage explores the world of extremely annoying bodily sounds and media coverage about Misophonia juxtaposed with sound practices that transform intrusive body sounds into music and performance art.

Carlo Patrao (NYC) is a Portuguese radio artist who makes documentary features and sound collages exploring the fringes of science, sound, and music. Carlo’s background in the field of clinical psychology also informs his radio work on themes linking sound and the human psyche.
