A sound walk/reflection that presents a conceptual and sonic spin on a mushroom forage with themes of identity, transglobal movement, community and fragmentation. Katya, a Russian born artist who has spent years exploring how the practice of mushroom foraging connects with identity and meaning among the Russian diaspora, will be our narrator. She’ll introduce participants to fellow immigrants, foraging for mushrooms and their own sense of place in this new world. We’ll hear from John Cage and others on the art, philosophy and science of foraging. Via prompts and creative sound design, we’ll guide listeners on their own personal forage through Philly’s urban forest.
